Finito, meaning both finite and thin, is a misfit speaker made of scraps and repurposed parts.
The sound is distinct and imperfect, nostalgic of old record players and a tactile experience of music. Devices are connected by cable or bluetooth and the only control is a lever switch.
It’s often mistaken as a lamp. I like this misinterpretation as it forces us to rethink how we associate shape and function. Almost paradoxically, this helps Finito blend in incredibly well.
This project also aims to distance itself from a recycled stereotype. Instead, it highlights the character of each recovered part, now inseparable from their new collective identity.
For the curious, Finito brings together a block of mahogany, a lost scrap of aluminium, a lampshade, the arm from a ceiling fixture, some plumbing joints, a broken speaker circuit and parts of a vacuum.
